You want to become a software developer, but there are so many different technology stacks out there, it’s impossible to decide which one.
I’ll go over the reasons why becoming a .NET developer is a good career to pursue. It has helped me tremendously and I’m sure it can do the same for you.
Work with cutting edge cloud technology
As cloud computing is becoming more common, almost all companies are looking to move their applications from their on-premise servers to the cloud. I’ve seen this for myself since I’ve been with a few companies and almost all of them are moving to Microsoft Azure to deploy their applications.
Moving to the cloud provides a lot of flexibility. You don’t need extra office space to store your servers. And if your company moves office locations frequently, it’s easy to do so since all of the applications are in the cloud.
That’s good news for developers, especially .NET developers.
The .NET Framework is closely integrated with Microsoft products such as SQL Server and Active Directory. Because of this, .NET developers have a ton of access to data and reporting capabilities. If you have experience with SQL Server with on-premise servers, most likely you’d have no issues with SQL Server in the cloud.
Having experience with Microsoft Azure is extremely lucrative for your career, whether you are a new or experienced developer. If you have Azure in your toolkit, you’ll be the developer that every company is looking for.
Working with Microsoft technologies? You’re in good hands
Almost everyone knows/uses some application from Microsoft. College students and working professionals use Word, Powerpoint and Excel almost on a daily basis.
This is true for Software Developers as well. A company that has already invested so much in Microsoft will most likely invest in .NET developers as well.
Companies such as Intel, JP Morgan Chase and Cisco all partner with Microsoft to host and deploy their applications globally. The job opportunities at these larger companies are bountiful and will continue to be so as long as their relationship with Microsoft continues.
Smaller and mid-sized companies also utilize .NET. These companies will typically re-use the tech from bigger companies, creating even more job opportunities for .NET developers.
Working with a tech giant such as Microsoft provides incredible job opportunities and security. Microsoft isn’t going away for long time and continues to deliver newer products such as C# 9.0 and .NET Core 3.1.
.NET developers are in demand and will be for a long time
The .NET framework is a software framework developed by Microsoft in 2002. Since then, the .NET framework has dominated the software industry since then with languages such as C# and Visual Basic.
The .NET Framework was popular in the late 1990’s for developing desktop applications for Windows PC. When Microsoft decided to make the source code public in 2007, large companies that already utilized Microsoft technologies developed powerful web applications.
With the .NET Framework being around for so long, companies are less likely to switch to another framework. After all, if the company is profiting with its legacy codebase, there’s very little reason to switch to a different framework that isn’t Microsoft.
As a .NET developer, you’ll get the chance to develop applications using the latest technology, as well as maintaining legacy code for older applications. This reason alone is why .NET developers are in demand: you need developers to maintain existing code as well as using the latest technology to develop new applications.
Final thoughts
If you’re thinking about becoming a .NET developer, know that you’ll have many opportunities coming your way if you decide to go down this career path. I can tell you that as a .NET developer myself, I have found many job opportunities myself.
Becoming a .NET developer was the best career decision that I’ve ever made.
.NET developers have been in demand, are in demand, and will be in demand for a long time.
